“My project targets key workers in Alternative Education, the tutors, who are responsible for promoting wellbeing of disenfranchised youth and engaging them back in to education.”
Adrian Schoone – General Manager, Creative Learning Scheme, Fellowship recipient

For young people to thrive, it’s essential to build a robust team of leaders; people that will drive positive change by developing and strengthening the organisations that support vulnerable youth.

However, driving change can be difficult when working hard day-to-day. That’s where the World of Difference Fellowship comes in. Each year up to two individuals will receive $90,000 to take a year to further develop their skills, understanding and leadership, with a vision to influencing youth sector change and increasing their personal success. The Fellowship builds relationships with past Fellows and youth sector leaders and connects them with Vodafone employees so they can access mentoring, professional support and volunteering opportunities.

Who are we looking for?

Our World of Difference Fellowship recipients will already have an exceptional background working in the youth sector and strong skills that can be further developed.

Understanding people with knowledge of the issues young Kiwis face at a grass roots level, but who want to operate from a broader, more strategic platform.

Background and experience is important – we’re looking for people with a history of community leadership (including former World of Difference recipients) and a clear vision for the future. They must be ready for a new leadership challenge.

Passionate people that want to be part of a movement to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people and are prepared to invest a year in personal and professional development to do so.

First: Check your eligibility

Are you eligible? Take the questionnaire
Before applying for our World of Difference programme or World of Difference Fellowship, please read the criteria, FAQs, terms and conditions and take our eligibility questionnaire to ensure you are eligible.

Next: Double check your application

Make sure you complete your online application before the due date and prepare any other material you might need to send with your application form, such as a reference letter. We aim to respond to applications by email within six weeks of application.

Our process

World of Difference and World of Difference Fellowship applications that meet our criteria progress to a committee made up of past applicants, sector leaders and staff, who will make further decisions. After this stage selected applicants will be interviewed by phone.

The final group of World of Difference applicants will be visited by a group of individuals at the organisation in which they are working, while World of Difference Fellowship applicants will present to a selection panel.

Chosen World of Difference recipients and Fellows attend an introductory hui and will be announced at a celebratory event. Throughout their funded year, they attend another hui, and are invited back to hui each year to connect and share with the other alumni.

Due to a high number of applications, we are unable to speak to everyone individually. All unsuccessful applicants will be informed over email, except for those who have been interviewed by phone or in person, who will receive a phone call with specific feedback about their application.

We will not be able to discuss individual applications. Please read all the information thoroughly, and email us if you have any additional questions.
