Since 2002 Vodafone Foundation NZ has funded over NZ$20 million to innovative projects that support local communities and youth to live lives they value.

Our focus

We aim to empower New Zealand’s vulnerable young people to reach their full potential so they can live lives they value. This requires a holistic approach to wellbeing; so rather than tackling issues they face, our programmes fund projects that positively develop their personal strengths.

World of Difference Programme

Each year we select up to six astounding individuals that work with a local charity to develop initiatives that support vulnerable young people. These World of Difference recipients each receive $100,00 towards their salary, personal and leadership development, as well as project costs for one year. It gives them the ability to completely dedicate themselves to their initiatives for 12 months.

World of Difference Fellowship

We believe our exceptional youth sector leaders deserve the opportunity to further develop their skills, understanding and capabilities. That’s where the World of Difference Fellowship comes in. Up to two Fellows each year receive $90,000 towards salary and associated costs so they can dedicate twelve months to focusing on solutions to issues affecting vulnerable young people. During this time, they learn to influence change in the youth sector as well as increase their leadership ability.

Extension Partnership Programme

We aim to give back to the community by continuing to support young people. Our Extension Partnership Programme gives recipient organisations a three-year funding investment to build on their achievements through the World of Difference and World of Difference Fellowship programmes.

Technology Development Grants

The Vodafone New Zealand Foundation believes that technology can be a game-changer for youth development. Our Technology Development Grants use an innovation pipeline approach to find, support and wrap around technology innovations that support better outcomes for our young people.

Other ways we support our young leaders to fulfil their mission

Capacity Building is a key part of our programmes. Each individual and organisation works with a Vodafone business mentor to ensure they have access to the resources and knowledge that will improve their personal and professional development skills and strengthen their work.

Networking at our annual hui gives new and existing alumni and partner organisations the opportunity to reflect, grow and learn together.

Access to our business connects alumni and partner organisations to valuable fundraising and volunteering opportunities within Vodafone.

Grant Making Programme

The Vodafone New Zealand Foundation Grants Programme was established in 2002 and initially supported refugee and migrant young women, youth offenders and at risk youth. Over the years the focus changed to supporting New Zealand youth charities working with vulnerable young people aged 12-24 years. We are now dedicated to supporting the youth sector via our current programmes: World of Difference, World of Difference Fellowship, Extension Partnership programme and Technology Development Grants.

Our past grant programmes have included:

  • the Canterbury Fund, providing more than $2 million in earthquake recovery funding for youth programmes in Christchurch;
  • Alumni Grants, providing long-term funding for collaborative work between our community partners;
  • and a Small Grants programme offering grants of $5-$50,000 to community partners and youth development organisations making a significant impact.
